The total number of coronavirus cases in India climbed to 562 with the first
case reported from the North East on Tuesday. Over 40 fresh cases reported from
various parts of country in a day. New cases have been reported from Jammu and
Kashmir, Telangana, Punjab, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar
Pradesh and Manipur.
At present, there are 512
active COVID-19 cases in India. A total of 40 people have been
discharged from hospital, according to Ministry of Health and Welfare.
A 54-year-old man passed
away in Madurai today, taking the death toll in the country to 10.
Kerala is the worst
affected state in the country which has so far reported 109 cases. The total
number of coronavirus cases also crossed 100-mark in Maharashtra.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Maharashtra has recorded 101
coronavirus patients.
The COVID-19 cases in
Karnataka have spiked in last few days, taking the total of patients in the
state to 46. The number of cases in Telangana has climbed to 35, including 10
foreigners.
With six fresh cases reported
on Tuesday, the total number of coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu has surged to
18.
As five more people tested
positive for novel coronavirus in last two days, the total number COVID-19
positive cases in Uttar Pradesh has increased to 35, including a foreign
national. Gujarat has reported 33 cases and Delhi has 30 patients.
Jammu and Kashmir has seven
coronavirus patients while Ladakh has recorded 13 COVID-19 positive case so
far. Fresh cases were reported from Mizoram and Manipur on Tuesday.
West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh
and Andhra Pradesh has nine patients each. There are three cases each in
Himachal Pradesh and Bihar, while there are two cases in Odisha. Puducherry,
Manipur and Chhattisgarh have reported a case each.
As the number of coronavirus
cases surged past 500, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a complete
nationwide lockdown for 21 days from Tuesday midnight. Only essential services
like grocery shops, banks and ATMs and medicine outlets will remain functional.
Starting today, all the
domestic flights have been suspended. Indian Railways suspended all passenger
trains till April 14 in the wake of coronavirus outbreak. Freight movement will
remain functional to carry essential commodities across the country, officials
said.
The home ministry on
Tuesday said those who viloate the lockdown norms would be punished with
imprisonment of up to two years and a fine or both.
